Nebiolo Headlines MEC Women's Swimming Top Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Frostburg State senior Lydia Nebiolo heads the 2024-25 Mountain East Conference Women’s Swimming Awards as the MEC Swimmer of the Year.

The league announced the Top Honors on Thursday morning.

The all-conference awards were previously announced based on performances at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference/Mountain East Conference Swimming & Diving Championships in February. At that event, Nebiolo earned all-conference recognition in the 1000 Freestyle (2nd) 1650 Freestyle (2nd), 200 Backstroke (2nd), 100 Backstroke (1st), and as part of Frostburg State’s 400 Medley Relay (1st), 800 Freestyle Relay (1st), and 400 Free Relay team (1st).

Nebiolo is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, who attended Shaler Area High School before enrolling at Frostburg State. She has earned all-conference recognition in multiple events all four years with the Bobcats’ swimming and diving program.

Frostburg State swept the trio of MEC Swimming & Diving Top Honors: Genevieve Rippeon was named MEC Freshman of the Year, and Kyle Garase was named MEC Coach of the Year. All three individual honors were determined by a vote of MEC head coaches.

Rippeon, who is from Ellicott, Maryland and attended Mount Hebron High School, was first team All-MEC in the 1650 Freestyle and joined Nebiolo on the Bobcats’ 400 Free Relay team that also earned All-MEC first team recognition.

Garase led Frostburg State to a fourth-place finish in the G-MAC/MEC Championships and first among MEC teams with 974 points, besting Wheeling, Fairmont State, Davis & Elkins, Salem, and West Virginia Wesleyan.
