UC Captures 2025 Men's Cross Country Championship

Golden Eagles Had Top Four Finishers, including MEC Runner of the Year and MEC Freshman of the Year

WHEELING, W.Va. — The first four individual finishers who crossed the finish line at the 2025 MEC Men’s Cross Country Championships were from the University of Charleston, which captured the team title Saturday on the Crispin Course at Oglebay Resort.

Hugo Hewitt paced the UC runners, beating teammate Thomas Crockett by seven seconds to claim the individual title in the 8K race. Hewitt, a senior from England, was named the MEC Run

The Golden Eagles’ Harry Witt finished third, which clinched the MEC Freshman of the Year award for him as the top first-year competitor. UC’s Jules Geffroy-Remot finished fourth.

Charleston defeated Davis & Elkins, the defending men’s team champion. The Senators put together an impressive performance, with Cooper Gibson (fifth), Christopher Lucas (seventh), and Jordan Thomas (eighth) all finishing in the top 10.

Concord’s Braden Ward placed sixth, West Virginia Wesleyan’s Kent Niland finished ninth, and Glenville State’s Nick Pitchford rounded out the top 10. All-MEC honors go to the top 10 finishers, and Nos. 11 through 20 are honored with second team recognition.

UC’s Nick Bias was named the MEC Coach of the Year.
