BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference today released its 2024 football schedule. The MEC will play a nine-game conference schedule with each team playing two additional contests against non-conference competition in 2024.
Institutions will release complete schedules with non-conference opponents and game times when available. In addition, the MEC and its member institutions will announce a Thursday night game schedule later in the summer.
The University of Charleston won the MEC Football Championship in 2023 with an 8-1 record in league play. The Golden Eagles advanced to the second round of the NCAA Playoffs with a 52-44 win over New Haven in the opening round. UC was edged by Kutztown, 32-31, in the second round.
Four teams finished in a tie for second place in the 2023 standings with 6-3 records in league play, including Fairmont State, Frostburg State, Notre Dame College and UNC Pembroke.
The 2024 grid slate features non-conference play only in Week 0 (Aug. 31) and Week 1 (Sept. 7). Conference play will begin on Saturday, Sept. 14 with Frostburg State visiting West Liberty, and Wheeling on the road at West Virginia Wesleyan.
