Frostburg State Falls in NCAA DII Quarterfinals to Kutztown

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Frostburg State football season has come to an end in the NCAA DII Football Quarterfinals on Saturday, 51-29 to Kutztown.
 
Kutztown (14-0) racked up 367 yards of Total Offense and gained 24 first downs while Frostburg State (11-3) finished with 359 yards of offense and 15 first downs.
 
Kutztown would strike first at the 11:53 minute mark on a four-yard touchdown run by Judd Novack as they took a 7-0 lead over the Bobcats. However, Frostburg State would respond at the 8:00 minute mark as KJ Smothers scored from one-yard out but the PAT would be blocked by KU’s Kyree Butler as the Bobcats trialed by one, 7-6.
 
The Golden Bears would go on to add another touchdown in the first and two in the second while the Bobcats added another touchdown in the first and one in the second as they trailed Kutztown, 28-20.
 
Frostburg State stared the scoring in the third quarter as Harrison Fritz hit a 38-yard field goal to pull the Bobcats within five, 28-23 with 11:51 to play.
 
Kutztown responded on a 10-yard TD pass from Judd Novak to Trevor Amorim as they went back up 35-23 at the 5:42 minute mark of the third. The Golden Bears added another score at the end of the third as they now led, 42-23.
 
Frostburg State found the endzone in the fourth with 1:51 to play in the contest as Myles Fulton hit Austin Paul-Umstead on a 65-yard TD pass. However, Kutztown would prove to be too much today as they defeated the Bobcats, 51-29.
 
Frostburg State rushed for just 75 yards while Kutztown racked up 216 yards on the ground. The Bobcats were also penalized 11 times for 91 yards while the Golden Bears were flagged only three times for 20 yards.
 
The Bobcats also turned the ball over twice in the contest with an interception and a fumble while Kutztown only gave it away once, a fumble.
 
Myles Fulton threw for 171 yards going 9-for-17 with two touchdowns and an interception. Jordan Brooks went 3-for-8 for 113 yards.
 
KJ Smothers ran for 33 yards on 12 carries with two touchdowns while Owen Doyle totted the ball eight times for 33 yards. Smothers, also hauled in two passes for 73 yards while Austin Paul-Umstead caught one pass for 65 yards and a touchdown.
 
Wylan Harich led the Bobcats defensively with 11 total tackles while Jaylen Boyd finished with nine total tackles, 2.0 TFL’s, and a sack.
 
Kutztown was led by Judd Novak as he went 11-for-16 for 151 yards and three touchdowns. Jaedyn Stewart rushed for 74 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown.
 
Luke Maxwell had four receptions for 64 yards and a touchdown.
 
Mike Fayemi had seven total tackles while Freddie Retter finished with six total tackles, 2.5 TFL’s, and 2.5 sacks.
