BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Frostburg State travels to Kutztown on Saturday for a quarterfinal round matchup in the NCAA DII Football Championship bracket.
Frostburg State advanced to the quarterfinal round after defeating California (Pa.) last Saturday, 23-21. The region's top seed, Kutztown, advanced after beating Assumption, 56-19.
Saturday’s matchup is set for noon at Andre Reed Stadium in Kutztown, Pennsylvania. This is the first time Frostburg State and Kutztown will meet on the gridiron. Frostburg State (11-2) is ranked No. 24 nationally in the AFCA Coaches Poll and is ranked No. 21 in Total Defense (301.2 yards per game) and No. 19 in Scoring Defense (18.5 points per game).
Kutztown (13-0) is ranked No. 3 nationally in the AFCA Coaches Poll and is No. 2 in Total Defense (253.1 yards per game), third
in Rushing Defense (78.2 yards per game), and second in Scoring Defense (10.3 points per game).
The Bobcats' rushing attack is led by Owen Doyle with 1,023 rushing yards, an average 78.7 per game. Doyle, a junior from Denton, Maryland, also has 12 touchdowns on the year. Defensively, Frostburg State is led by Jaylen Boyd with 60 total tackles on the season (4.62 per game). He also has 4.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, an interception, and a forced fumble this season.
Offensively, Kutztown is led by quarterback Judd Novak as he has thrown for 2,674 yards with 25 touchdowns passes and no interceptions. He has also rushed for 362 yards on the season with five touchdown runs. Defensively, Brandon Hile leads the Golden Bears with 60 total tackles (4.62 per game), to go along with 5.5 TFLs, 3.0 sacks, an interception, and a forced fumble.
Frostburg State comes into Saturday on a four-game winning streak while Kutztown has won 13 straight contests.
