Davis & Elkins Leads MEC Cross Country Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Davis & Elkins College, Point Park University, and Glenville State University captured individual awards following the Mountain East Conference Cross Country Championships, which were held Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Crispin Course at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling.

Davis & Elkins junior Jan Thewes was named the MEC Men’s Runner of the Year after capturing the conference crown. He twice was named MEC Runner of the Week this season, and he earned the USTFCCCA NCAA D2 Runner of the Week this season. He was undefeated against Division II runners this season.

Point Park’s Cassondra O’Connor placed runner-up at the MEC conference meet, sweeping the Runner of the Year and Freshman of the Year on the women’s side. She captured MEC Runner of the Week three times this season, and had five top 15 finishes overall.

Glenville State’s Patrick Reilly was the top performer MEC rookie at the Conference Championships, placing 13th, which earned him league Freshman of the Year honors on the men’s side.

Davis & Elkins captured the men’s and women’s team titles. The D&E men halted the University of Charleston’s six-year run atop the league, while the Senators’ women ended UC’s four-year run of championships. For that, head coach Jason Pyles won two Coach of the Year honors for leading each overall team champion.

Regional competitions loom this Saturday.
