ELITE EIGHT BOUND: Glenville State Tops West Chester to Win Atlantic Region Championship

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Glenville State outscored West Chester 28-10 in the second quarter and rolled to an 88-63 win over the Golden Rams in Monday night’s NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship Game at the Waco Center in Glenville.
 
With Monday’s regional championship win, Glenville State will now move on to the Elite Eight in St. Joseph, Mo. The Pioneers will be the No. 5 seed in the Elite Eight Tournament and will meet No. 4 seed University of Tampa on Monday, March 20 at 9:30 p.m. ET.
 
All-Region and All-Conference standouts Breanna Campbell and Mickayla Perdue led the Pioneers in the victory over West Chester. Campbell, the 2023 Atlantic Region Tournament MVP, finished the evening with 24 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. She shot 7-of-16 from the floor and went 9-of-10 from the free throw line. Perdue, a member of the 2023 Atlantic Region All-Tournament Team, finished Monday’s game with 13 points to go with five rebounds. She made a trio of 3-pointers in the win.
 
The Pioneers also got 12 points (four 3-pointers) from Tor’e Alford and 11 points from Hya Haywood. Aline Fevrier finished with nine points, six rebounds and three assists.
 
For the game, Glenville State shot just 33.3 percent from the floor (28-of-84), but the Pioneers pulled down 25 offensive rebounds and scored 13 second-chance points in the win. GSU also drained 15 three-pointers and scored 31 points off 22 West Chester turnovers.
 
West Chester shot 41.4 percent from the floor (29-of-70), but connected on just 1-of-10 attempts from behind the arc. West Chester scored 46 of its 63 points in the paint.
 
Leah Johnson, a member of the 2023 Atlantic Region All-Tournament Team, scored 26 points and passed out five assists on Monday night to lead West Chester. Emily McAteer also recorded a double-double for the Golden Rams with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
