Glenville State’s Season Comes to an End in Atlantic Regional

Indiana, Pa. - Glenville State’s women’s basketball season came to an end on Friday inside the Kovalchick Convention and Athletics Complex. The Pioneers, which won the MEC regular season championship, fell to Winston-Salem State, 88-71, in the first matchup of the day at the NCAA Atlantic Regional.
 
Glenville State finishes the season at 24-7 overall and finished the season losing their last two-of-three games.
 
In Friday’s Atlantic Regional, Glenville State fell behind early after the opening quarter trailing Winston-Salem State by seven, 21-14. Midway through the second half the Lady Pioneers would battle back and cut the lead to just one, 36-37. However, The Lady Rams would end the half on a 11-2 run as GSU lagged at the break, 38-48.
 
In the third, Winston-Salem State would start on an 8-5 run as they kept a double-digit lead. Glenville State would try and battle back however they would be outscored in the third 21-18 and 19-15 in the fourth as they fell to the Lady Rams.
 
The Lady Pioneers had three players score in double figures with Nkiyock Wonder leading the way with 16 points, seven rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Stevi Yancy scored 15 points, as she went 4-of-6 from deep, while grabbing three rebounds, and three assists. Nwando Okigbo chipped in with 11 points and nine rebounds.
 
GSU was outrebounded in the contest 43-32 while Winston-Salem State also had 19 fast break points to the Lady Pioneers 10. Glenville State shot 47 percent from the floor and 47 percent from deep while Winston-Salem State shot 42 percent from the field and 43 percent from behind the arc.
 
The Lady Rams had four reach double figures with Nevaeh Farmer scoring a game-high 22 points, to go with five assists, three rebounds, and two steals. Maia Charles posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
