Indiana, Pa. – The University of Charleston women’s basketball season came to an end on Friday inside the Kovalchick Convention and Athletics Complex. The Golden Eagles, which won the MEC Tournament Championship, fell to IUP, 79-53, in the third matchup of the day at the NCAA Atlantic Regional.
Charleston finishes the season at 21-11 overall.
In the third game of the day at the NCAA Atlantic Regional, IUP took an early two-point lead after quarter number one over UC, 21-19. IUP would use big second quarter outscoring the Golden Eagles, 19-13, UC found themselves trailing at the break by eight at, 32-40.
Charleston would start the third on a 5-1 run as they tied it up at 40 all at the 7:42 minute mark. However, IUP would end the quarter on a 20-9 run and took a 14-point lead into the fourth, 61-47.
In the fourth, it would be all IUP as the Crimson Hawks defeated Charleston, 79-53.
Natalie Smith led UC with 18 points and seven rebounds while Paris Stokes, the MEC Tournament MEVP, chipped in with 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Charleston shot 31 percent from the floor and 15 percent from deep while IUP shot 58 percent from the field and 38 percent from deep. IUP also outscored UC in the paint, 34-26.
The Crimson Hawks were led by Nyshae’ Weaver with 18 points and three rebounds while Teresa Maggio posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
