Berlin, Santos Garner MEC Swimming Honors

MEC Swimmer of the Week is presented by The Health Plan

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Notre Dame’s Hannah Berlin has been recognized as the first Mountain East Conference Women’s Swimmer of the Week of the 2022-23 season, while Davis & Elkins standout Jiwh Santos was named the Men’s Swimmer of the Week.

Berlin took first place in two of her six events over the weekend during a tri-meet against Ashland and Oberlin College. She was first to touch the wall in the 500 freestyle (5:27.21) and was a member of Notre Dame’s 400 free relay team that turned in a time of 3:51.72. Berlin also took second in the 200 freestyle and 200 butterfly, and placed third as a member of two additional relays (200 medley and 800 freestyle).
 
Santos, from The Philippines, broke the Davis & Elkins school record in the 100 freestyle at the West Virginia State games over the weekend. He placed third overall in the event with a time of 46.43, which was .40 seconds faster than his previous top performance. He also improved the school record by two-tenths of a second. In other events at the West Virginia State games, Santos took eighth in the 50 freestyle and was a member of the 200 freestyle relay that placed fourth, as well as the 200 medley and 400 free relays that each placed fifth.
