NEW ORLEANS – Senior Issac Prather of the Concord University men's cross country team has been selected as the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Cross Country National Athlete of the Week, the organization announced Monday afternoon.
Prather clocked 23:43 for the 8,000-meter course at the Queens City Invite Friday night as he took home his second individual victory of the season. The Summersville, West Virginia native cruised to the win as he won by 26 seconds at Charlotte, North Carolina's McAlpine Park course.
The time was a program record and was the second-fastest 8,000-meter time in Mountain East Conference history.
Prather's effort helped the Mountain Lions to a fourth-place team finish in a field that featured over 30 schools.
Prather is the first CU cross country athlete, male or female, to win USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week, and the first national athlete/player of the week for Concord since Tommy Bolte of the men's basketball program in January 2019.
Winona State's Lindsay Cunningham was the Division II Female Athlete of the Week
Concord competes at the Paul Short Run Friday at Lehigh University.
