BOX SCORE

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Shepherd's Allen Cross' 29 yard touchdown run in the third quarter proved to be the difference for SU in a 7-0 win over Winston-Salem State in the second round of the NCAA Division II Playoffs.

Trailing 7-0 in the fourth quarter, WSSU had its best chance to tie the game driving the ball all the way to the SU 13-yard line and faced fourth down and eight, but Shepherd came up with the crucial stop as Levi Barber batted away a pass intended for Rashon Williams keeping Winston-Salem State out of the end zone.

The Shepherd defense, ranked 2nd in NCAA Division II, was once again superb in holding WSSU to just 10 yards rushing in the game and 159 yards of total offense.   De'Ontre Johnson led Shepherd with 9 tackles, three of them for loss, and had one sack.  Dominique Dixon added 8 stops.

Winston-Salem State, the top defense in the CIAA, held Shepherd to 247 yards of total offense.  SU managed 135 yards on the ground with Cross finishing with 60 and the lone touchdown, Jabre Lolley ending the game with 89 yards rushing.

SU quarterback Jeff Ziemba was 12-of-21 for 112 yards and one interception. His 21-yard completion to Jeff Cook in the third quarter set up the Cross touchdown run.

WSSU quarterbacks DeShean Townsend and Rudy Johnson combined for 15-of-39 passing for 139 yards and one interception. WSSU was just 3-of-18 on third down and 0-for-3 on fourth down on the game.
