Charleston, Wheeling Advance to NCAA DII Men’s Golf Championship

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The University of Charleston Golden Eagles and the Wheeling University Cardinals both men’s golf teams have advanced to the NCAA DII Men’s Golf Championship round at the East/Atlantic Regional on Saturday.
 
Charleston, which tied for first place, shot a team total of 861 which was tied with Gannon University. UC shot a 293 in round one, a 288 in round two, and 280 in round three as they were +21 as a team.
 
The Golden Eagles Pau Sanchez paced UC as he shot a 72 in round one, a 71 in round two, and a 66 in round three which was four under. Sanchez, who was the NCAA DII Atlantic/East Region Individual Champion defeated Gannon's Rasmus Seppanen on sixth playoff hole.
 
Wheeling, which placed third, shot an 866 as a team which was +26. Round one the Cardinals shot a 289, a 285 in round two, and a 292 in round three. WU’s Elias Ekenes-Fosback finished today even as he shot a 70.
 
Glenville State just missed the cut as they placed fourth with a team total of 868 while West Liberty finished 13th overall with a team total of 891, and Fairmont State finished in 19th with a total of 908.

However, GSU and WLU both had individual qualifiers for the champinship in: Hector Arriaga (GSU) and Adam Gill (WLU).
 
The Championship is set for Monday, May 18 and run through the 22nd at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
