BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Wednesday afternoon this week’s Men’s and Women’s Golfers of the Week awards. The MEC’s weekly individual awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Wheeling’s Troy Loughry is the MEC Men’s Golfer of the Week. There were no nominations for Women’s Golfer of the Week.
Loughry, a graduate student from Grove City, Pennsylvania, led the Wheeling Men's Golf team to a tie for second at the Vulcan Invitational, placing second overall at the event. He would shoot a 144 (E) for the event, setting a single event low in his spring debut. He started things off strong on day one, finishing in a three-way tie for fourth with a 74 (+2). When he came back on day two, Loughry was able to knock four strokes off his score, shooting a -2 over the final 18 holes. He would hit a tournament-best three birdies in the final round, including two on the back nine that secured his sub-par score on the second day.
