KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Glenville State rallied to defeat Kutztown, 10-6 in game one of the NCAA DII Softball Super Regional on Thursday evening at the North Campus Softball Field in Kutztown, Pennsylvania.
The Golden Bears jumped ahead to an early lead, 4-0 after cashing in four runs while leading through three innings.
In the fourth inning, Glenville State’s Delaney Warnick responded with a two-run home run to left center, putting the Pioneers on the board, 4-2. Kutztown extended its lead with two more runs at the top of the fourth, making the score 6-2.
GSU looked to turn the tides, scoring three runs off of four hits in the top of the fifth. Pioneer Zailees Seda tied the game, 6-6 with a homer to left center in the sixth inning.
Glenville State continued to dominate throughout the rest of the contest, as AndiJo Howard homered to left center bringing in three runs. Zailees Seda closed out the game for GSU with an RBI single, 10-6.
Seda went three for four with two RBIs while Howard, Warnick, Shelby McDaniels and Alexis Harward additionally tallied RBIs. Kylie Burdick was credited with the win, pitching three innings while allowing just two hits and striking out four batters.
The Pioneers will face Kutztown for game two of the NCAA DII Softball Super Regional on Friday, at 1 p.m., in Kutztown. The two teams will play a game three on Friday at 3:30 p.m., if necessary.
