BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference has selected the winners of this week’s MEC Player of the Week awards for women’s lacrosse. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Frostburg State’s Neila Haney has been named the MEC Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week while fellow Bobcat Izzy Kelly has been named the MEC Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week.
Haney, a senior from Lino Lakes, Minnesota, led the Bobcats to a pair of wins in the week, totaling 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points, as well as grabbing 8 draw controls. She had four goals and five assists in the 21-7 win over Wheeling, then followed up by tying her career-high with 12 points on six goals and assists in the 24-2 win over Point Park. Against the Pioneers, she set the program's all-time career points record with 339.
Kelly, a senior from East Islip, New York, led the Bobcats defensive efforts in a pair of wins, causing six turnovers and picking up four groundballs. She set a season-high with six CT's in the team's 24-2 win over Point Park, while also helping limit their attack to just 16 total shots. In the 21-7 win against Wheeling, she picked up three groundballs while holding them to 21 efforts.
