Potterbeck, Ramos Earn MEC Tennis Weekly Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference has announced the winners of this week’s Male and Female Tennis Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
 
Charleston’s Nils Potterbeck has been named the MEC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week while Frostburg State’s Julia Ramos Bentham has been named the MEC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
 
Potterbeck, a sophomore from Germany, against Edinboro on Friday, Nils won his doubles match 6-3 and his singles match 7-5, 6-0. The next day against D&E, he won his doubles match 7-5 and his singles match 7-6, 6-1.
 
Ramos, a senior from Lloret de Mar, Spain, went unbeaten in both singles and doubles play during the week, helping the team to a 2-1 record. Across three matches at No. 1 singles, she didn't drop a single set, defeating her opponent from Division I Hampton 6-4, 6-4, beating Elizabeth City State 6-0, 6-2, and over Shaw 6-2, 6-1. In doubles play, she partnered with Alyssa Kush at the No. 1 spot for a 6-1 win over ECSU and a 6-3 victory over Shaw, with their match against Hampton not allowed to finish.
