BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference has announced the winners of this week’s Male and Female Tennis Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
 
Charleston’s Alberto Nordio has been named the MEC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week while UC’s Sara Martinez has been named the MEC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the third consecutive week.
 
Nordio, a senior from Padua, Italy, won his doubles with Nils Potterbeck 6-4, and won his singles match 6-3, 7-6 against #23 Wayne State. Then on Sunday, against #25 Tiffin, Potterbeck and Nordio won their doubles 6-3, and Alberto lost his singles match in a close game 7-5, 2-6, 10-6.
 
Martinez, a senior from Spain, had a dominating week again. Against Tiffin, she won #1 doubles with Sofiia Krasikova 6-3. Then, she won #1 singles 0-6, 7-6, 6-4.
