BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference has announced the winners of this week’s Male and Female Tennis Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
 
Fairmont State’s Kusunoki Haruto has been named the MEC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week while Charleston’s Sara Martinez has been named the MEC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
 
Haruto, a sophomore from Takamatsu, Japan, helped Fairmont State defeat Ashland University, 5-2 as Kusunoki Haruto helped secure that victory. At number 3 singles, Haruto defeated Ryohei Miyake in straight sets, 6-1 and 6-2. Then at number-one doubles, Haruto and Noah Liedtke bested Tomas Paskauskas and Bernardo Duarte by the score of 6-3.
 
Martinez, a senior from Spain, won the #1 singles 6-4, 6-2 against U of Indy. She also won the #1 doubles 6-2.
