BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Fairmont State’s Gabby Reep has been named the MEC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Glenville State’s Elijah Redfern has been named the MEC Men’s Player of the Week.
Reep, a junior guard from Bridgeport, West Virginia, helped the Falcons go 2-0 this week with wins over Davis & Elkins and Frostburg State. She averaged 20.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 3.0 apg, and 6.0 spg. In the 82-61 win over Davis & Elkins she scored 16 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists, and six steals. She followed that up with 25 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and another six steals in the 78-71 win over Frostburg State.
Redfern, a sophomore guard from Beckley, West Virginia, was a big piece of the Pioneers 2-0 week on the road, where GSU picked up wins at West Virginia State and Concord. He averaged 30.5 ppg, 4.5 prg, 2.0 apg, and 1.5 spg with shooting marks of 63% going 25-for-40 from the field and 42% going 5-for-12 from behind the arc. Redfern dropped 31 points with seven rebounds, two assists and a steal at West Virginia State before having 30 points with two rebounds, two assists and two steals in the Pioneers 112-100 victory at Concord.
