BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Football Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Concord quarterback Tyler Mizzell was named the MEC Offensive Player of the Week for his performance against Bluefield State. The No. 2 passer in Division II, Mizzell completed 23 of 41 attempts for 314 yards and four touchdowns. Additionally, he carried the ball 14 times for 49 yards. Through two games, Mizzell leads the MEC in passing yards and total offense, and is tied for the league lead in passing touchdowns.
West Virginia State linebacker Marshawn Mankins is the MEC Defensive Player of the Week after a standout performance in a win against Barton. Mankins recorded a game-high 12 tackles, including two tackles for a loss (one of which was a sack) and a quarterback hurry. The fifth-year senior from Columbus, Ohio, is tied for second in the conference in tackles.
Fairmont State kicker Emmanuel Richardson provided a flawless performance in the Falcons’ overtime win against Bloomsburg. Richardson made a pair of field goals and all five of his extra-point attempts, including the decisive point in the extra period. Richardson has made all eight of his extra-point attempts this season, making him 98 for 98 in his career. He has the made makes and attempts in MEC history of any player who has not missed an extra point.
