Anderson Voted MEC Women’s Sports Coach of the Year

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Fairmont State women’s basketball coach Stephanie Anderson has been named the 2024-25 Mountain East Conference Women’s Sports Coach of the Year, the league announced Tuesday morning.

The winner was determined via a vote of institutional administrators and the MEC office.

Anderson, the 2024-25 MEC Coach of the Year in women’s basketball, guided Fairmont State to a sweep of the MEC regular season and tournament championships. The Falcons, as the No. 1 seed, won three games in as many days in the MEC Basketball Tournament in March, winning by an average margin of 19.3 points per game.

Fairmont State finished 27-5 overall and 17-3 in MEC play. The Falcons’ season ended in the NCAA Atlantic Regional with a loss to Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Anderson led a pair of All-MEC first team selections: Alyssa DeAngelo and Leslie Huffman. That duo, along with Madeline Huffman, also made the MEC All-Tournament team, while Aaliyah Brunny was selected for the Commissioner’s Heart & Hustle Award. Leslie Huffman, the MEC Tournament MVP, was also named the D2 CCA Atlantic Regional Player of the Year and an All-American by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.
