MEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Recap | Day 2

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Entering the final day of the Mountain East Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship, the Point Park men’s team and University of Charleston women’s team lead the way.

PPU (68.5 points) leads UC (63) on the men’s side as Day 3 of the event, which is being held here at the Track & Field Complex at Mylan Park. On the women’s side, UC has accumulated 70 points through eight finals events, leading West Virginia Wesleyan (59).

Tuesday’s action will conclude with an awards ceremony at 4 p.m.

On Monday, eight champions were crowned. The MEC awards all-conference honors to the top three in each event, with the champion named to first team, runner-up to second team, and third place to honorable mention.

Monday’s first champion was West Liberty’s Isaac Tavo, who won the Men’s Shot Put. In the same event for the women, Glenville State’s Janae Scott was the winner.

West Liberty’s Ky’Ara Ross captured the Women’s Long Jump title, while Wheeling’s Keala McCurry dominated the Women’s Pole Vault.

Jamal Mounchivedi of West Liberty won the High Jump, while Point Park’s Akeem Mustapha took home first place in the Long Jump.

Monday night ended with the 3000m Steeplechase. West Virginia Wesleyan swept the event, with Jonathan Norton (men) and Leigha Hall (women) capturing the titles.
