MEC Football Players of the Week Announced as Regular Season Concludes

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Football Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.

West Liberty’s Hunter Patterson is the MEC Offensive Player of the Week, his teammate, Bre’Andre Horsley, is the MEC Defensive Player of the Week, and Concord Ar’Terrian Godfrey is the MEC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Patterson, a junior from Chester, West Virginia, had a career day in the Hilltoppers’ regular season finale. He rushed for 201 yards and five touchdowns, and added 74 receiving yards and another score in WLU’s 68-67 win against rival Wheeling. Patterson set a school record and tied an MEC mark with five rushing touchdowns, and his 36 points scored tied an MEC mark for a single game.

Horsley, a sophomore from Lynchburg, Virginia, made the final defensive play in the Hilltoppers’ wild 68-67 win against Wheeling. He finished with six tackles, one sack, and one tackle for a loss, and recovered a fumble on the Cardinals’ final offensive play to seal the come-from-behind win. Horsley also finished with a trio of pass breakups, plus one quarterback hurry, for a full defensive stat line.

Godfrey, a sophomore from Palatka, Florida, made an all-around impact in the Mountain Lions’ season-ending win, but especially on special teams. Not only did Godfrey record three tackles and an interception, he blocked a pair of kicks, including a third quarter punt that he recovered in the end zone for a touchdown. Godfrey also got his hands on a field goal attempt to thwart the 41-yarder.
