Frostburg State and Charleston MEC Football Co-Champions (MEC Football Saturday Scoreboard Week 11)

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Frostburg State University and the University of Charleston concluded the 2025 regular season on Saturday with road wins, which means the teams share the Mountain East Conference football championship.

By virtue of a tiebreaker, Frostburg State earns the automatic qualifying berth for NCAA Division II postseason play. UC is eligible for selection for the field of 32 teams as an at-large selection. The field will feature 16 automatic berths and 16 at-large selections.

The NCAA Selection Show is Sunday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m., and will be streamed on NCAA.com.

Frostburg State defeated Fairmont State, 35-18, to finished the regular season 9-2 overall and 7-1 in MEC play. Charleston knocked off West Virginia State, 38-21, to wrap up the regular season at 8-3 overall and 7-1 in conference action. Frostburg State handed UC its one loss — a 34-32 double overtime win on Oct. 18.

Also on Saturday, West Liberty defeated Wheeling, 68-67, in the highest-scoring game in MEC history, breaking the record set in Concord’s 68-60 win against Charleston on Oct. 15, 2022.

In Saturday’s win, the Hilltoppers had 524 passing yards, the second-most in MEC history, and 783 total yards of offense, third-most in the league record books.

Individually, Kohl Meisman’s 502 passing yards is the fourth 500-yard passing effort in league history. Meisman had 530 total yards of offense, tying Shepherd’s Tyson Bagent for the third-most in a single game in MEC history.

Additionally, running back Hunter Patterson finished with five rushing touchdowns, the third player in MEC history to accomplish that feat (Charleston’s Chavon Wright did it three times, and Notre Dame’s Jaleel McLaughlin did it twice). Patterson totaled six touchdowns, tying Wright’s MEC record with 36 points scored in a game.
