BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Week 7 of the Division II college football season features one of the most anticipated matchups of the MEC season: defending champion and first-place University of Charleston against second-place Frostburg State. Until the Bobcats' loss last Saturday, Oct. 11, against Glenville State, Frostburg State had been undefeated and nationally ranked. Currently, UC and Frostburg State are not only atop the MEC standings, but are the only two league teams receiving votes in the AFCA Top 25 poll. The teams will meet at University of Charleston Stadium, where the Golden Eagles have not lost to an MEC opponent in 11 games. Overall, all nine Mountain East Conference teams are in action this week — eight teams account for four conference games, and Fairmont State heads to Edinboro for a midseason non-league matchup. Five of the nine MEC teams have zero or one loss in conference play, meaning more than half of the league is within one game of the top spot of the standings in the latter part of October.
