Glenville State Duo, Frostburg State Specialist Earn MEC Football Weekly Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Football Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.

Glenville State teammates Jeremiah King and Sean Scott were named MEC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, after the Pioneers’ 19-13 win at nationally ranked and previously unbeaten Frostburg State on Saturday afternoon. Frostburg State punter Sam Dominguez was named the MEC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the double overtime thriller.

King, a sophomore running back, carried the ball 23 times for 100 yards and scored the walk-off touchdown in the second overtime of the Pioneers’ win at No. 23 Frostburg State. King is the first player to eclipse 100 rushing yards in a game this season against the Bobcats, who entered Saturday’s game with the No. 1 rush defense in the MEC. King’s 1-yard touchdown plunge with the game tied sealed the win for Glenville State.

Frostburg State also entered the matchup with the MEC’s top offense, which made the Pioneers’ defensive effort all the more impressive. Glenville State was led by Scott, a senior safety, who had a game- and season-high 12 tackles, 0.5 tackles for a loss, two pass breakups and one quarterback hurry. The Bobcats had scored 33 or more points in four of five games to begin the season, but were held to a season-low 13 points by Scott and the Pioneers.

Dominguez helped Frostburg State stay in the game by booting six punts for 295 — an average of 49.2 yards per kick. Three of Dominguez’s punts landed inside the 20-yard line, including a pair which were downed at the 1-yard line. The sophomore also recorded a season-best 58-yard punt in the Bobcats’ home loss.
