FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The 2026 Mountain East Conference football season continues with nonconference action as four teams take the field on Thursday, Sept. 3 followed by a slew of five contests on Saturday, Sept. 5. Four MEC teams remain undefeated, including Concord, West Virginia State, West Virginia Wesleyan and Wheeling. 

On Thursday, Glenville State hosts Millersville while Fairmont State welcomes Bloomsburg. West Virginia Wesleyan will travel to Clarion, Pennsylvania to face off against Clarion while Charleston travels to California, Pa. to battle Cal U. All four contests are scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. ET.

Four contests will be played on the road Saturday as Frostburg Stats open their season against Shepherd in Shepherdstown, West Virginia at 1 p.m. West Liberty and West Virginia state both head to Pennsylvania to take on Seton Hill and Robet Morris at 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively. Wheeling will travel to North Canton, Ohio to face off against Walsh at 6 p.m. Additionally, Concord welcomes Bluefield State with kick off scheduled for 2 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 3

West Virginia Wesleyan (1-0) at Clarion (0-0) | 6 p.m. | Clarion, Pa.

Notes: West Virginia Wesleyan opened the 2026 season with a 31-13 win over Post on Aug. 29 … the victory marked WVWC’s first win since Oct. 22, 2022, ending a 35-game losing streak … the win marks the first for coach Mike Kellar at the helm of the Bobcats … West Virginia Wesleyan produced 421 yards of total offense, with 118 yards on the ground … WVWC QB Mike Evans Jr. led the Bobcats on offense going 14-for-22 with 303 passing yards and four touchdowns … wide receiver Amari Colon-Brown had 149 receiving yards, with four receptions and three touchdowns … Clarion will welcome the Bobcats to Memorial Stadium in Clarion, Pa., kicking off their season at home … the Golden Eagles were predicted to finish fifth in the PSAC West division this season … Clarion posted their best season in a decade in 2025, finishing 6-5 overall, tying for fifth in the West division with a 2-4 overall record … Clarion returns six starters from that 2026 offense, headlined by a trio of former all-conference performers.

Notes: Charleston fell in Week 0 to No. 8 Grand Valley State, 38-10 at home inside the University of Charleston Stadium … GVSU held the Golden Eagles to 232 yards of total offense, with just 46 yards on the ground … running back Zachariah Williams was the lone scorer for UC, with 10 receptions and 27 yards … California (Pa.) was picked third in the preseason PSAC West poll, after finishing the 2025 season 9-4 with a mark of 3-3 in conference play … the Vulcans posted a pair of four-game winning streaks last year while facing five nationally-ranked opponents and finished the year ranked No. 22 in the final American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top 25 poll.
