FAIRMONT, W. Va. - The Mountain East Conference has announced Monday the winners of this week’s Football Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan. 

West Virginia State quarterback Joe Dailey was selected as the MEC Offensive Player of the Week, West Liberty defensive back Luca Neal was named the MEC Defensive Player of the Week, and Concord kicker/punter Christian Torres was named the MEC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Dailey, redshirt freshman from West Palm Beach, Florida led West Virginia State in the Yellow Jackets 56-24 win over Chowan on Aug. 29. The quarterback had seven completions of 10 passing attempts while tallying five total touchdowns. Dailey notched 109 passing yards, along with three passing touchdowns. On the ground he averaged 7.8 yards per carry, earning three rushing touchdowns.

Neal, freshman from Avonworth, Pennsylvania anchored West Liberty’s defense against Walsh on Aug. 27. The defensive back earned 10 total tackles, with eight solo tackles and two assists. Additionally, Neal added two tackles for loss and a forced fumble.

Torres, freshman from Brock, Texas, was a key part in Concord’s 41-35 win over Division II Davidson. On special teams, Torres went three-for-four on extra points and two-for-two on field goals with makes of 26 and 23 yards. Additionally, three of his four kickoffs in the contest went for touchbacks. Both of Torres’s field goals came in after halftime, helping Concord get out of a 41-28 fourth quarter disadvantage.
