BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Two Wheeling University standouts have been selected as the Mountain East Conference’s Male and Female Swimmers of the Week. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
The Cardinals Euan MacLeod has been honored as the MEC Male Swimmer of the Week for the third time this season and Wheeling’s Gabby Baiano earned her second MEC Female Swimmer of the Week selection.
A freshman from Glasgow, Scotland, MacLeod turned in multiple strong performances in Wheeling’s winter training trip to Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) University. In addition to swimming a leg on WU’s victorious 200 Medley Relay team, he picked up a pair of runner-up finishes in the 50 and 100 Freestyle events.
Baiano, a junior from Bridgeville, Pa., also made her presence felt at the North Carolina meet. The Cardinal junior picked up individual wins in the 200 Freestyle (2:03.34) and 500 Freestyle (5:29.43) and swam the opening leg of Wheeling’s 200 Freestyle Relay, which placed second in a time of 1:52.29.
