BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State’s Lesbia Alejandra Puetro Sorto and West Virginia State’s Fran Soares-Cupertino have been named Co-Mountain East Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while Frostburg State’s Catherine Smith has been named the MEC Defensive Player of the Week, presented by
The Health Plan.
Puetro Sorto, a freshman from La Ceiba, Honduras, helped Fairmont State claim two victories this past week over Davis & Elkins (3-1) and Concord (3-0). Puetro Sorto scored two goals in each contest while also recording an assist in the Davis & Elkins victory.
Soares-Cupertino, a graduate student from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, scored four total goals this past week and tallied an assist as she helped the Yellow Jackets earn a 6-0 victory over Glenville State and a 4-1 win over Wheeling University. Her week was highlighed by a three-goal performance against GSU.
Smith, a sophomore defender from Parsonsburg, Md., helped Frostburg State secure two shutout victories this week with a 1-0 win over West Virginia Wesleyan and a 3-0 victory over Glenville State. Smith also scored the first FSU goal in the win over the Pioneers.
