BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- West Virginia State's Jenna Dufresne and Fairmont State's Julia DiPaoloa share this week's MEC Offensive Player of the Week honors, while West Liberty's Nyia Setla has been named the MEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Dufresne, a junior from Bedford, Ind., is recognized for a second-straight week after helping the Yellow Jackets to a pair of wins. She had 18 kills and two aces in a key win over Davis & Elkins, and then hit .571 with 20 kills and two more aces as the Yellow Jackets defeated Charleston.
DiPaola, a junior outside hitter from Stow, Ohio, finished the week with a team-high 37 kills and also tallied 33 digs in a 2-0 week for the Falcons. DiPaola hit .425 for the week with just six errors in her seven sets played. She averaged 5.29 kills and 4.71 digs per set last week.
DiPaola began the week by recording 15 kills and nine digs in a sweep against West Liberty on Tuesday evening at Joe Retton Arena. She followed up that performance with 22 kills and 24 digs in a four-set win over Frostburg State on Saturday, a win that helped the Falcons clinch the MEC North Division title. DiPaola hit .452 in the win over Frostburg.
Setla, a freshman libero/defensive specialist from Northville, Mich., was charted with 46 digs in the Hilltoppers’ two matches. Highlighting her week was a team-best 31 digs in an historic 3-1 win over Wheeling. That victory over the No. 15 Cardinals was the first win against a nationally-ranked team in Hilltopper history and the 115 total digs were a 4-set school record.
