BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference will be represented by tournament champion University of Charleston and at-large recipient Fairmont State in the 2025 NCAA Division II National Championship field.
The 64-team, single-elimination tournament was announced Monday night on NCAA.com. Fairmont State is the No. 6 seed in the Atlantic Region after receiving one of the 41 at-large invitations from the Division II Women’s Volleyball Selection Committee. UC, the No. 7 seed, secured the MEC’s automatic qualifying berth after winning the eight-team tournament championship this past Saturday in Buckhannon, West Virginia, defeating defending champion West Virginia State in the final.
The Atlantic Regional will be hosted by Gannon, the top seed, in Erie, Pennsylvania. The four quarterfinal matchups will get underway Thursday, Dec. 4 and conclude with the regional final on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Fairmont State (23-10) had its eight-match win streak snapped in the MEC quarterfinals, a 3-1 loss to WVSU. The Falcons shared the MEC North Division title and entered postseason play ranked No. 4 in the Atlantic Region. The Falcons collected two of the MEC’s three end-of-season individual honors given to student-athletes with Player of the Year Joey Borelle and Libero of the Year Josie Skinn.
Charleston (23-12) makes a return trip to the NCAA event after defeating Wheeling, Concord, and West Virginia State on consecutive days to win the MEC title and automatic berth. The Golden Eagles have hit their stride in the twilight of the season, and have won seven of eight matches entering the NCAA tournament.
Gannon is making its 16th consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament.
