Six MEC Volleyball Players Earn AVCA All-American Status

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced its Division II All-American Teams on Wednesday afternoon with six MEC players earning Honorable Mention.
 
Fairmont State University had three total players earn All-American status on the honorable mention team while Wheeling University had two players, and the University of Charleston added one player. From Fairmont State Joey Borelle, Josie Nobbe, and Josie Skinn all earned honors while Katie Wilking and Camryn Matus, both from Wheeling, and Abby Avila from Charleston.
 
Skinn, a senior from Norwalk, Ohio, earned First Team All-Atlantic Region for both organizations. This comes after being named the MEC Libero of the Year and All-MEC First Team. Nationally, Skinn ranks fifth in total digs with 649 and 12th in digs per set with 5.50. In the MEC Tournament, Skinn became the All-Time leader in career digs at Fairmont State.
 
Borelle, a native of Norton, Ohio, was named First Team All-Atlantic Region by both the AVCA and D2CCA. Earlier this postseason, Borelle was named the MEC Player of the Year and All-MEC First Team. She enters this week leading the team in kills, kills per set, points, and points per set. A two-time MEC Offensive Player of the Week this season, Borelle is 8th nationally in total kills and 26th in kills per set.

Nobbe, a junior from Greensburg, Indiana, was named All-Atlantic Region Honorable Mention by the AVCA. This is her second accolade of the season after being named All-MEC Second Team. Currently, she ranks second on the team in kills, points, and third in blocks.
 
Wilking, a junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, a middle blocker earned First Team All-MEC honors for her work on the Cardinal front line and coupled that with an Honorable Mention All-Region award. Additionally, she was one of the most efficient hitters in the conference this past season, sitting third in the conference with a .325 mark, knocking down 257 kills on 622 total attacks. Furthermore, Wilking was also one of the Cardinals premiere defenders, leading the way with 82.0 total blocks. She finished with 14 solo and 68 assisted, ranking 10th in the conference in both total blocks and solo blocks, while sitting eighth in block assists. 
 
Matus, a freshman from Brunswick, Ohio, was named the 2025 MEC Freshman of the Year this past season, while also taking home both First Team All-MEC and AVCA All-Regional honors. She led all freshman in the MEC with 297 kills on the season, while sitting fourth overall in the conference in kills. She would add to that a .220 hitting percentage, having only 126 errors in 778 attempts, while finishing tied for third on the team with 59 assists during the season. Matus would finish with 18 double digit kill efforts on the season and looks to continue building her success on the court. 
 
Avila, a senior from Cleveland, Ohio, was an All-MEC first teamer and a D2CCA All-Atlantic Region second teamer. She led the MEC in Assists with 1,090 total and averaged 9.48 per set. She was 8th in the league Service Aces with 42 on the season.
 
The 2025 AVCA All-Americans list included 42 players – 14 on the first, second, and third teams from 29 schools. The list would also include 117 Honorable Mention selections, with two programs having three players on those teams. The MEC had six honorees on the list, with all six earning spots on the AVCA Honorable Mention team. Fairmont State led the way with three honorees, followed by Wheeling with two, and Charleston with one. The 2025 All-America selections are made by the AVCA DII All-America Committee, consisting of head coaches from across the country.
