The teams competing are: Charleston, Concord, Davis & Elkins, Frostburg State, Glenville State, UNC Pembroke, West Liberty and Wheeling. Several athletes have already reached NCAA provisional marks this season and will be looking to improve those marks as well as win conference titles (see table).

On the men's side, Charleston athletes have the top times in the 60 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters and 800 meters. Aaron Banks has the top marks in both the 60 and 200 meters, and has NCAA provisional qualifying marks in those events. The only exception is Davis & Elkins' Dalton Irvine who has an MEC-best time of 8.18 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, which is an NCAA provisional mark.

The distance events should provide plenty of excitement on the track with three national caliber competitors in UNC Pembroke's Joshua Chepkesir, Concord's Jason Weitzel and Charleston's Jack Mastandrea.

Chepkesir, who earned All-America honors in cross country in the fall, has two NCAA provisional qualifying marks to his credit in the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters. Weitzel has a time just behind Chepkesir in the 3,000, but has the better time in the 5,000. UC's Mastandrea has the fastest time in the 5,000 with a mark of 14:08.81, which currently ranks 10th-best in the country.

In the high jump, UNC Pemrboke athletes have the top four marks in the conference this year, led by Jathan Deberry at 2.05 meters. West Liberty's Isaiah Robinson has the best triple jump mark in the MEC this year at 14.81 meters, which is also beyond the NCAA provisional standard. Wheeling sophomore Brian Vandusen is atop the league qualifiers in the long jump with a season-best jump of 6.98 meters, but the next three athletes are just .02 meters behind him.

In the pole vault, Glenville State freshman Haden Coon's jump of 4.85 meters stands as the best in the league this year and is also a NCAA provisional mark.

In the throws, Charleston's Nathan Stout has a throw of 16.85 meters in the shot put to lead the league and is an NCAA provo mark. Frostburg State's John Kerns has had an impressive season for the Bobcats ranking first in the weight throw (18.02 meters, NCAA provisional mark), and second in the shot put 15.11 meters.

West Liberty's Adam O'Donnell has the best performance so far this season in the heptathlon with 4,750 points, nearly 1,000 more points than his closest competitor.

On the women's side, four different schools have top marks in eight different running events. Charleston's Jocelyn Troicht in the 60 meters, and teammate Eve Hine is one of four athletes to go under a minute in the 400 meters this year at 59.11.

The Wheeling duo of Davina Norman and Emmarie Foote have the top-two times in the 200 meters. UNC Pembroke's Erman Jepleting has the league's fastest times in both the 800 meters and the mile. Davis & Elkins' Svea Timm returned to action two weeks ago and posted the top time in the 3,000 meters, while teammate Natalia Hidalgo Martinez has the fastest time in the 5,000 meters. UNC Pembroke's Quanterra Harrison raced to a 9.16 time in the 60-meter hurdles for the top mark in that event, followed by Frostburg State's Alyssa Mullery (9.30).

In the high jump, West Liberty freshman Olivia Miller has the best mark this year with a jump of 1.64 meters. However, four other athletes have jumped over 1.60 meters this year. In the long jump, three athletes are separted by just .02 meters as Maggie Kovalcik has a jump of 5.32 meters and is followed closely by Glenville State's Victoria Lewis (5.31) and Heaven Maeshack (5.30). UNC Pembroke athletes have the two best marks in the triple jump as Breze Ervin has a league-best 11.23 meters, while her teammate Keionna Ray is second in the conference with a jump of 10.64 meters.

Wheeling's Danielle Stewart is the favorite to win the pole vault after posting a 3.93 mark at the Youngstown State Mid-Major Invitational at the end of January. That mark currently sits as the 12-th best jump in the country so far this season.

Liz Fleming, a two-time MEC Track & Field Athlete of the Week, is the only thrower in the field to have reached an NCAA provisional mark, and she accomplished the feat in both the shot put and the weight throw.

Charleston's Louise Cranston heads into this weekend atop a crowded performance list in the pentathlon. She had a league-high 3,033 points just two weeks ago at VMI. West Virginia Wesleyan's Lauren Leaman had 2,973 points back in December, and Asya Carney had 2,887 points at the end of January.
