BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Eddie Stockett (UU), Zach Strand (FROST), Justin Watts (GSC) and Bryce Sheppert (NDC) have earned Mountain East Conference Player of the Week honors for their play in the seventh week of the season.
Stockett, a senior from McKeesport, Pa., is the MEC Offensive Player of the Week for leading Urbana to a 35-31 win over West Virginia State on Saturday. accounted for all five touchdowns in the game with three through the air and another two on the ground, including the game-winner with just :14 seconds left in the game. He finished with 238 yards passing and another 39 on the ground int he victory.
Strand, a junior from Easton, Md., is the league's Defensive Player of the Week after helping Frostburg State slow down one of the league's top offenses in a 42-7 win over Charleston last Thursday night. Strand came up with two sacks and forced two fumbles in the game, returning one 39 yards for a touchdown. Frostburg State held UC to 30 points under its scoring average coming into the game.
Watts and Sheppert share MEC Special Teams Player of the Week honors for their efforts in wins last week. Watts, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals and averaged 46.7 yards per punt with all four of his attempts landing inside the 20-yard line against West Virginia Wesleyan. Sheppert, a freshman from Stow, Ohio, blocked two punts against Wheeling that set up touchdowns for Notre Dame as the Falcons rolled past the Cardinals.

Offense: Jaleel McLaughlin (NDC) rushed for 172 yards and two touchdowns on just 17 attempts (10.1 YPC)... Gavin Lavat (FROST) totaled 143 rushing yards and three TDs… Tim Heltzel (GSC) was 20-for-30 with 301 yards passing and two touchdowns… Zach Phillips (WLU) tallied three touchdowns (two passing and one rushing) with 338 yards through the air… Kord Jenkins (WVWC) notched 74 yards on 15 carries… Brandon Plyler (CU) hauled in 10 catches for 165 yards and two touchdowns… Tucker Strachan (WU) tossed for 173 and a touchdown against NDC… Isiah Scott (WVSU) totaled five catches for 149 yards (29.8 YPC) and two touchdowns… Takwan Crews-Naylor (FAIR) completed 16 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns.
Defense: Samuel Thomas (GSC) totaled seven tackles, a pass breakup, an interception and a defensive touchdown… Deontre Logan (WVWC) notched 10 tackles, forced and recovered a fumble… Kenny Randall (UC) tallied 10 tackles and 3.5 TFL… Dwain Porterfield (CU) recorded a career-best 15 tackles… David Gilcreast (WLU) tallied seven solo tackles and 5.0 TFL… Dustin Crouser (WVSU) posted a season-best 17 tackles and 1.0 TFL… Nathan Moore (NDC) totaled 14 tackles and 3.0 TFL… Chris Richardson (UU) forced a fumble and posted 10 tackles… Jordan Schaeffer (FAIR) recorded five tackles and a pick-six.
Special Teams: Jacob Stafford (WVWC) punted nine times for 338 yards and a season-long 51 yard punt… Tywan Pearce (CU) had four kick returns for 85 yards… Erik Ware (UU) was 5-for-5 on PAT’s and totaled 328 yards on six kickoffs.
