UC Wins 2026 MEC Women’s Tennis Championship

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Charleston defeated Fairmont State, 4-0, on Sunday evening as they claimed the 2026 Mountain East Conference Women’s Tennis title.
 
UC would win the doubles point to go up 1-0, as Sara Martinez and Sofiia Krasikova defeated Hope Backx and Lara Smith 6-3. Then Riva Hondiashvilli and Michelle Connor won 6-4 over Laura Maciel and Alara Juelide Akgul.
 
The second point of the match for UC came at the number three’s match as Vanessa Mueller would win 7-5 and Stephanie Gopar wouldn’t be able to continue due to an injury.
 
Sofiia Krasikova of UC would win point number three defeating Hope Backx 6-2 and 6-2 as the Golden Eagles led 3-0.
 
The winning match point would come from 2026 MEC Women’s Player of the Year, Sara Martinez, as she defeated Maria Fonseca 6-0 and 6-4 to win the Tournament Championship.
 
The NCAA DII Women’s Tennis selection show will be Monday night, May 4th.
