BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference has announced the winners of this week’s Male and Female Tennis Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Davis & Elkins’ Christo Wirahadipoernomo has been named the MEC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week while fellow Fairmont State’s Maria Fonseca has been named the MEC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week.
Wirahadipoernomo, a sophomore from Semarang, Indonesia, went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles this week in the senators wins vs. Frostburg State and Salem. In Frostburg State doubles match he and his partner defeated G. Carrillo Amengual /S. Rodriguez 6-1. In #3 singles he defeated T. Iser 7-6 tie break 8-6, 6-2, 6-0. At Salem, #2 doubles they defeated T. Acuna /E. Hort 6-2 and in #3 singles he defeated S. Schultz Cartin 6-2, 6-2.
Fonseca, a senior from Porto, Portugal, helped Fairmont State women's tennis go 2-0, Fonseca was a perfect 4-0. As the team swept Bluefield State, 7-0, Fonseca and Gopar won at No. 2 doubles over Anna Felip/ Sirisha Dheer, 6-4. At No. 1 singles, Fonseca won in straight sets over Ekin Ozmen, 6-3/6-1. The team then defeated West Liberty by the score of 5-0. Fonseca and Gopar defeated Sanchita Dabas / Courtney Curnutte at No. 2 doubles, 6-1. At No. 1 singles, Fonseca defeated Maria Martirosyan, 6-3/6-1.
