Charleston Claims 2026 MEC Men’s Tennis Championship

Charleston, W.Va. – The University of Charleston Golden Eagles defeated the Fairmont State Falcons, 4-1, on Sunday as they claimed the 2026 MEC Men’s Tennis Championship.
 
UC won the doubles point as Vicente Garcia and Omar Elsamahy defeated Kusunoki Haruto and Noah Liedtke and then Alberto Nordio and Nils Pottbecker beat Mohamed Mostafa Moens and Gustavo De Douza Do Prado Masu, as they went up 1-0.
 
Vicente Garcia of UC then gave the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead as he defeated Kusunoki Haruto in the number one singles, 6-1 and 6-3.
 
Fairmont State would get a point in the number five singles, making it 2-1, as Mohamed Mostafa Moens took down Alberto Nordio, 6-3 and 6-2.
 
The third point for Charleston would come in the number two singles match as Omar Elsamahy beat Gabriel Masu, 6-3 and 7-6.
 
The match winning point for UC came in the number six singles as Marcelo Pinto defeated Gustavo De Souza Do Prado Masu, 2-6, 6-3, and 6-4 as they claimed the Championship.
 
The NCAA DII Men’s Tennis selection show will be Monday night, May 4th.
