Mustapha, Jamison, and Van den Torren Earn MEC Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Honors

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -  The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winner of this week’s Men’s & Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week. The weekly awards are presented by The Health Plan.

Point Park’s Akeem Mustapha has been named the MEC Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week while Frostburg State’s Shekinah Jamison and Point Park’s Dunya Van den Torren have been named the MEC Co-Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week.

Mustapha, a junior from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, shattered the school record in the long jump at 7.89 meters, a mark that currently ranks first in NCAA Division II and ties for fifth among all NCAA divisions this season as of Sunday night. The previous school record in the event was 7.39 meters held by Daimere Stephens-Stewart since May 6, 2023 (WVU Last Chance Meet). Mustapha also tied his PR in the high jump at 1.95 meters, a mark good enough for sixth-place at Saturday's event. Mustapha also impressed in the 110 meter hurdles event with the third-fastest time in school history (15.05) as he finished 12th in the race on Saturday at SRU. A day earlier, Mustapha took second place in the triple jump. Mustapha's mark of 14.20 meters moves him into fifth place in program history and set a new PR for him.

Jamison, a freshman from Clarksburg, Maryland, had three top-3 finishes at the Golden Eagle Invitational, setting two personal-best marks in the process. She won the long jump at 5.61m for a personal record, then placed second in the triple jump at 11.38m and third in the high jump at 1.55m, hitting another career mark.

Van den Torren, a sophomore from the Netherlands, on Saturday at SRU, Dunya Van den Tooren finished second in the long jump with a school record mark of 1.70 meters, besting her previous record and PR of 1.68 meters. The mark also accomplished an NCAA Provisional standard. Van den Tooren was also part of Point Park's runner-up finish in the 4x400 meter relay, as she teamed with Aubrey Smith, Diamond Rush and Mya Greschner to turn in a time of 4:08.70. A day earlier, Van den Tooren took fourth in the triple jump, achieving a mark of 11.46 meters, good for third-best in Pioneer history and another PR.
