BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - The Mountain East Conference announced Monday the winners of this week’s Men’s and Women’s Basketball Player of the Week awards. The MEC Player of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Wheeling’s Tee Harris Jr. has been named the MEC Men’s player of the Week while West Liberty’s Reagan Vinskovich and Glenville State’s Nwando Okigbo have been named the MEC Co-Women’s Players of the Week.
Harris, a junior forward from Mineral, Virginia, put together a big week to help the Cardinals secure the No. 3 seed in the MEC Tournament with a 2-0 effort. Harris combined to score 61 points between the two games, while adding 21 rebounds, one block, and one steal while shooting 27-42 (64.3%) from the floor. He would start the week with his fifth double-double of the season, setting a career-high with 26 points while adding 12 rebounds in a win against Point Park. He continued the success into the battle with West Liberty, besting his career best once again with 35 points, while adding nine rebounds to round out the week.
Vinskovich, a red-shirt freshman forward from Belmont, Ohio, helped the Hilltoppers go 1-1 this week. She scored averaged 26.50 points per contest. She also grabbed 25 rebounds in the two games, while having 3 blocks, and a steal.
Okigbo, a guard/forward from Anambra, Nigeria, was big for the Lady Pioneers securing the MEC Regular Season title this week, averaging 17.0 PPG, 13.5 RPG, 2.5 BPG, 2.0 SPG and 1.0 SPG in wins over Charleston and Concord. Okigbo recorded two double doubles, with 20 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and one block in Wednesday's before scoring 14 points and grabbing 17 rebounds against Concord on Saturday. She also blocked four shots and had one steal versus the Mountain Lions.
