MEC Announces 2025 Women's Tennis Accolades

NOTE: Due to an administrative error on West Virginia State University’s campus, the original announcement of the 2025 MEC Women’s Tennis postseason awards included a recipient ineligible for the Freshman of the Year award. This release identifies the rightful honoree.

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – The Mountain East Conference on Friday announced its 2025 Women’s Tennis award winners and all-conference teams, following a vote of the league’s head coaches.

University of Charleston No. 1 Sara Martinez is the 2025 MEC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year, compiling an 18-6 record overall in singles and 16-8 mark in doubles play. Martinez and three of her teammates made All-MEC first team, which helped boost Alec Foote to MEC Coach of the Year honors.

Foote led UC to the regular season title and the No. 1 seed in this weekend’s MEC Women’s Tennis Championship in Charleston, West Virginia.

Davis & Elkins’ Lilly Wentzler was named MEC Freshman of the Year. Wentzler was the Senators’ second-best player this season, recording a 7-5 record in both singles and doubles competition.
