BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The University of Charleston’s 2025 season ended Sunday afternoon in the Third Round of the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Championship.
The Golden Eagles conceded a goal in the 46th minute, ultimately losing 2-0 to the region’s top overall seed Southern New Hampshire. The loss was the first on the year for UC, which had been unbeaten — 17 wins and four draws — in 21 matches.
Southern New Hampshire (16-2-2), ranked No. 6 in the United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25, has won 12 of its last 14 and nine of its last 10. SNHU will face sixth-seeded Gannon in the national quarterfinals on Saturday, Dec. 6. Gannon defeated the region’s No. 2 seed, Franklin Pierce, 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Charleston entered Sunday’s matchup with the Division II lead in shutouts (16) and allowing the fewest goals (five) in the nation. But SNHU broke through early in the second half on a goal by Dani Gonzalez, assisted by Gabriel Barroso. In the 87th minute, with UC in search of the equalizer, Charlie Preus scored an insurance goal on assist from Martin Fuentes to seal the win for the hosts.
The Penmen outshot the Golden Eagles, 12-7, and held a 7-3 advantage on shots on goal.
