Arriaga, Lugo Named MEC Golfers of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Wednesday afternoon this week’s Men’s and Women’s Golfers of the Week awards. The MEC’s weekly individual awards are presented by The Health Plan.

Glenville State’s Hector Arriaga is the MEC Men’s Golfer of the Week, and Concord’s Kendra Lugo is the MEC Women’s Golfer of the Week.

Arriaga, a freshman from Mexico, was the individual medalist at the Sunnehanna Collegiate in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, this week. Arriaga finished with a 5-under through three rounds, which included a masterful 6-under in Round 2. Arriaga shot 70-64-71 at the Par 70 Sunnehanna Country Club, firing seven birdies with one bogey in the second round to clear the field by three strokes overall.

Lugo, a freshman from New Port Richey, Florida, finished third overall at the Golden Eagle Autumn Invitational at Clarion Oaks Golf Club this week. Lugo helped the Mountain Lions to a third-place finish as a team as she finished +12 in the two-round event, trailing golfers from Seton Hill and Clarion on the individual leaderboard. Lugo managed a trio of birdies in the second round to represent as the top MEC finisher.
