BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced Wednesday afternoon this week’s Men’s and Women’s Golfers of the Week awards. The MEC’s weekly individual awards are presented by The Health Plan.
Marina Saviceva-Noti of Davis & Elkins is the MEC Women’s Golfer of the Week, and Wheeling’s Elias Ekenes-Fosback is the MEC Men’s Golfer of the Week.
Saviceva-Noti won this week’s Vulcan Invitational, held at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon, Pennsylvania. Saviceva-Noti bested the field by six shots in the 36-hole event, shooting a two-over 73 and a one-under 70 to win. She overcame a double bogey on No. 2, a 528-yard Par 5, and a triple bogey on No. 8, a 297-yard Par 4, by firing five birdies in Monday’s first round. She had a trio of birdies and only two bogeys in Tuesday’s final round. As a team, Davis & Elkins finished fourth in the event.
Ekenes-Fosback finished tied for 14th — and third among MEC golfers — at the Hannastown Collegiate Invitational in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. The three-round score of 223 represented a career best for the Cardinals golfer, and this is his first career top-20 finish. Ekenes-Fosback was consistent, shooting 74-75-74 at the par-70 course. He had a trio of birdies in the first round, and a pair of birdies in Round 2 and Round 3. Ekenes-Fosback’s final round 74 helped him climb two spots up the leaderboard.
