FROSTBURG, Md. – Following day one of the MEC Outdoor Track & Field Championship, the University of Charleston women lead narrowly over Wheeling University, 39-38. West Liberty sits in third, followed by Frostburg State, West Virginia Wesleyan, Glenville State, Concord, West Virginia State and Davis & Elkins.
West Liberty leads on the men’s side with 52 points, while Charleston is in second with 46 points. West Virginia Wesleyan is third, followed by Frostburg State, Davis & Elkins, Glenville State, Wheeling, Concord and West Virginia State.
UC’s Julie LaFare won the women’s 10,000m with a time of 37:54.90. Her Golden Eagle teammate, Abby McKinney, won the Hammer Throw at 44.81 meters.
JayLynn McClarren of Wheeling took first in the Heptathlon Shot Put, second in the Heptathlon 100 meters, sixth in the Heptathlon 200 meters, and third in the Heptathlon High Jump.
West Liberty’s Sierra Lanhma took first in the long jump with a mark of 5.93 meters, while her Hilltopper teammate Ky’Ara Ross took second with a jump of 5.84 meters.
For the West Liberty men, Mikhi Anderson won the high jump with a distance of 2.05 meters and fellow Hilltopper Daminn Cunningham took second with a jump of 1.95 meters.
Zane Chalker of UC won the 10,000 meters with a time of 30:53.57. Additionally, Kellen Tropeck of Charleston won the hammer throw with a distance of 54.67 meters.
The second day of the MEC Outdoor Track & Field Championship gets underway with the decathlon and heptathlon at 8:30 a.m. on Monday morning. The field events will follow beginning at 12:30 in the afternoon. Visit
