Idiens, Martin Voted Track & Field Athletes of the Week

MEC Athlete of the Week is presented by The Health Plan

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Charleston’s Sam Idiens and West Liberty’s Kennedy Martin were honored as this week’s Mountain East Conference Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, the league office announced.
 
The MEC Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
 
Idiens, a freshman from Christchurch, New Zealand, turned in a time of 3:48.15 in the 1500m at the Virginia Challenge over the weekend. The time was the best by a Division II runner at the event, and also accomplished an NCAA provisional qualifying time. Idiens currently ranks second in the MEC in the event, behind his teammate George Couttie.
 
Martin, a senior from New Cumberland, West Virginia, turned in four top 10 performances at the John Papa Invitational and Mountaineer Twilight events this weekend. At the John Papa Invitational, Martin took first in the discus throw, with a mark of 42.23m, and seventh in the shot put with a mark of 12.08m. At the Mountaineer Twilight, she won both events with a career-best 44.35m in the discus, and a 12.10m in the shot put.
