ERIE, Pa. – The University of Charleston’s postseason run came up short on Tuesday evening, falling 67-65 in the Atlantic Regional Final against top-seeded Gannon at the Haggerty Family Events Center in Erie.
Gannon took its first lead of the game on a game-winning layup by Nigel Haughton with 0.1 seconds remaining in the second half. Gannon’s final possession began with a missed driving layup by Lyle Tipton, which was followed up off an offensive rebound by Haughton.
Charleston led by as many as 16 points in the first half after shooting 63 percent (17-of-27) from the floor and 7-of-14 from three. Gannon shot just 28 percent (10-of-36) from the floor and was 2-of-9 from three in the opening half.
UC took a 41-27 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, Charleston cooled off from the field with just seven field goals (one 3-pointer). The Golden Eagles shot 39 percent from the floor over the final 20 minutes of play.
Gannon shot 50 percent (15-of-30) from the floor in the second half, with most of their damage done on the drive and in the paint. The Knights made just two 3-pointers in the game, with both coming in the first half.
Tyler Eberhart led Charleston with 22 points and six rebounds in the setback. Eddie Colbert III chipped in 15 points, while DeAirius Barker chipped in eight points and six assists.
Gannon got a team-high 25 points from Josh Omojafo. Zach Hobbs added 14 points and seven rebounds.
Charleston 2023-24 season comes to an end with a 29-5 overall record.
