BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Wheeling’s Emily Holzopfel has been named the Mountain East Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for the second-consecutive week, while Fairmont State’s Alex Turowski has been named this week’s Men’s Golfer of the Week. The MEC Golfer of the Week awards are presented by The Health Plan.
 
Holzopfel, a senior from Rayland, Ohio, finished in a tie for fifth place at the Michael Corbett Fall Classic on Sunday during a rain-shortened event in Erie. Holzopfel shot a five-over 77 in the opening round before second-round play was halted due to weather on Monday. After a slow start to the round, she battled back with two birdies and five pars on the day as she led the Cardinals during the event.
 
Turowski, a sophomore from Penn Trafford, Pa., finished in a tie for fourth-place at the Bud Elwell Fall Classic at Whispering Woods Golf Club in Erie. Turowski shot and even-par 72 during Sunday’s opening round before rain forced the cancelation of Monday’s second round.
