BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Wheeling’s Emily Holzopfel has been named the Mountain East Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for the second-consecutive week, while Fairmont State’s Alex Turowski has been named this week’s Men’s Golfer of the Week. The MEC Golfer of the Week awards are presented by

Holzopfel, a senior from Rayland, Ohio, finished in a tie for fifth place at the Michael Corbett Fall Classic on Sunday during a rain-shortened event in Erie. Holzopfel shot a five-over 77 in the opening round before second-round play was halted due to weather on Monday. After a slow start to the round, she battled back with two birdies and five pars on the day as she led the Cardinals during the event.
Turowski, a sophomore from Penn Trafford, Pa., finished in a tie for fourth-place at the Bud Elwell Fall Classic at Whispering Woods Golf Club in Erie. Turowski shot and even-par 72 during Sunday’s opening round before rain forced the cancelation of Monday’s second round.
