BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. -- Fairmont State's Sierra Kotchman has been named as the 2021 Mountain East Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Kotchman was selected
among the finalists for the award.
Kotchman is the second student-athlete from Fairmont State to win the award joining Mackenzie Harrison who was recognized in 2018.
Kotchman finished third in the country in scoring this past season averaging 23.5 points per game. She was fourth in the country in three-point field goals per game (3.35) and connected on 39 percent of her attempts from behind the arc. She earned first team All-MEC honors for the third time in her career.
She became the league's all-time leading scorer and is third in Fairmont State history with 2,032 points.
In the classroom, Kotchman graduated Summa Cum Laude (3.97 GPA) with a degree in Business Administration this spring. She was a three-time Academic All-District selection, a two-time Academic All-American, and was
recently tabbed as the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year in women's basketball.
The MEC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year is selected by a vote of institutional administrators and the conference office.
